Teaching Philosophy

Get to Know My Teaching Philosophy:

My teaching philosophy is centered on fostering the love and passion for choral music, creating a classroom where students feel inspired rather than pressured to participate. Personal growth and collaboration are also prioritized in my classroom alongside vocal and musical development and I believe that every student should take possession of their own learning journey.

In both public schools and higher education settings, I aim to create a choral environment where students can explore music based on their own interests and passions. For students who have very limited time in general to practice due to other responsibilities, I still want them to have a long lasting appreciation for choir and ensemble singing. Teaching for me is about sharing the joy of music helping students recognize both personal and community benefits of choral performance, and guiding them towards great and meaningful experiences in singing, collaboration, creativity and leadership.

In practice, the philosophy will reflect the emphasis of ensemble work, active listening, creativity and reflection on the emotional and social impact of choral music. Concert and Performance opportunities every year are not only to strengthen vocal technique and musicianship in music, but also to put pride in students’ accomplishments. These concerts and performance opportunities will furthermore strengthen a sense of community in general. Following my Philosophy of there is no pressure to participate in these activities, I hope that I can make choir a source of empowerment,

enjoyment, and personal growth.

Through the empowerment, enjoyment and personal growth, I also hope to develop my students’ artistic skills and their capacity to inspire others. Whether directing a school orchestra, choir, or leading a university ensemble, I want to make sure I emphasize collaboration, clear

communication, and creating an inclusive environment where every musician can thrive. At the end of the day, I want my students to leave my classroom with more than just technical proficiency. I want all of my students to carry passion, appreciation for choral music and confidence in their creativity levels in music. I also want all of my students to understand that music can connect, inspire, and enrich their lives. By nurturing passion over pressure, I hope to create educational spaces where everyone can grow as both musicians and individuals.
